Intune app troubleshooting
Most app problems fall into a few buckets. Work through them in order before reaching for the logs.
Start with the status
The install status tells you which stage failed: download, install, or detection. An app that installs successfully but shows as not installed is a detection problem, not an installer problem. Treat those as separate investigations.
Check the obvious
- Is the app assigned with the intent and audience you expect? Required versus Available changes the behaviour completely.
- Do the requirements pass on the target device, including OS build and architecture?
- Does the install command succeed when run manually in the same context?
- Does the detection rule match the state the installer actually leaves behind?
Detection-specific failures
Reinstalls in a loop almost always mean detection never reports the app as present. Verify the exact path, registry key or product code the installer creates, and remember that 64-bit devices redirect 32-bit file and registry access.
Logs
The Intune Management Extension logs sit under
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\IntuneManagementExtension\Logs. Read them in order:
IntuneManagementExtension.log for the agent and
AppWorkload.log for per-app work. Timestamps matter — correlate them with
when you assigned the app.
